Apple yesterday announced that they will host an event at their corporate campus in Cupertino, California, on March 17 and that this event will provide a "sneak peek" at the iPhone 3.0 software, along with information about the new software kit that 3rd party vendors and developers use to create applications for the iPhone. Developers have wished for the ability to create background tasks, allowing them for example to send/receive SMS messages and emails from within their own applications, as well as other features. For a long time users of the innovative device have called out for features like 'cut & paste'.
This announcement gets my "spidi-rumour-sense" ringing and it tells me, that this OS update could well be supported by new iPhone handset(s) towards the end of Q2. This is further enhanced by reports in the UK that O2 will slash its iPhone prices in May in order to clear stock, possibly for the new third-gen model(s). Also there are reports that Orange are trying to negotiate the iPhone on their network in the UK, with O2's exclusive deal apparently coming to an end. What will we see with regard to the iPhone hardware itself? Some have speculated that an iPhone with more memory, for example 32GB, maybe a higher resolution camera and others have even predicted an iPhone Nano, at a cheaper price but with less features.
Anyway, these are exciting times for all folks that are involved with the iPhone and will be sure to cement the almost invincible position that the device has in the hearts of enterprise as well as consumer.
What will Tuesday bring? We will have to wait and see and you just know its going to be good, but ohh the suspense!
