More Workers to Give Up Desk Phones at the Office

posted Wednesday, 11 February 2009

I wanted to flag a recent article from Rachael King, that appeared on BusinessWeek.com discussing a study by Gartner that shows office land lines decreasing as corporate users rely more on their mobile devices. This is interesting and following on from my previous post where I state that 'Mobility is an exciting place' , check out the new Apple posting on their Enterprise iPhone usage etc including an impressive customer video. Seems that Kraft Foods have adopted a wireless office policy inside the company, using iPhone for all their Enterprise needs and have developed iPhone applications for their consumers.

That takes the biscuit.... a Kraft one I hope ;-). Remember secure e-mail, contacts and calendars can be achieved with SY/iAWS Mobile Office especially if you have various email backends.

Back to Rachael's story, you can see she also quotes Phillip Redman, research vice president at Gartner...“The mobile device is starting to become more valuable than a desk phone, much like the notebook became more valuable than desktop PCs for many users”. Rachael then goes on to say that... In fact, Gartner expects the number of corporate mobile devices will overtake desktop phones within the enterprise by 2011, with most employees using both devices.

With this Companies will have to expand into Mobility at an ever increasing pace and they will need to rest assured that their development, devices and data will be able to be developed across platforms, quickly and securily... Enter the Sybase Unwired Platform, Gartners leading Mobile Enterprise Application Platform (MEAP) player.

Thanks

Ian
